Lucas Selects Los Angeles

George Lucas has announced he will locate his Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. Previously announced for Chicago, Lucas decided to relocate the museum following legal challenges by preservationists. The museum will be located in Exposition Park.

Lucas Leaves Chicago

George Lucas has announced that he will not build the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago, but rather will build the museum in California. Lucas’s plans ran up against the Friends of the Park, a group which supports the 1836 decree that Chicago’s lake shore should be a “Common to Remain Forever Open, Clear, and Free of Any Buildings, or Other Obstruction Whatever.”

Disney Acquires LucasFilm

The Walt Disney Company has purchased LucasFilm for 4.05 billion dollars in cash and stock. The deal gives Disney the rights to not only Star Wars, but also Indiana Jones and other LucasFilm properties. Disney has already announced plans to release a new Star Wars trilogy, beginning in 2015. The new trilogy will take place after the original trilogy and Disney says it will continue to release new Star Wars films every couple of years after the new trilogy is completed.

Lucas Changes Star Wars

Lucas Film has confirmed that changes will be made to the Blu Ray releases of the original Star Wars trilogy, including a re-dubbing of the sound made by Obi-Wan Kenobi when he first approaches Luke Skywalker and the Tuskan Raiders and having Darth Vader scream “Noooo!” when the Emperor is attacking Luke in the third film among other changes. Purists have already indicated their displeasure with the decision.
