Doc Weir Award

Jan van’t Ent received the Doc Weir Award at Eastercon the weekend of March 29-31. The Doc Weir Award is voted on by the convention’s attending membership. The award is given to someone who has made some form of contribution to fandom that deserves a little public recognition. The winner receives a certificate and a silver cup, although the winner must return it at the end of the year with his/her name engraved on it.

SFX Awards

SFX announced the winners of the SFX Awards at the SFX Weekender 3 on February 4. The awards are a mix of reader voted awards and awards given by a jury. The Elisabeth Sladen Award is a new category which was added in memory of Elisabeth Sladen. It will be given for contributions to children’s sf/f in any media.

Obituary: Chris Croughton

British fan Chris “Keris” Croughton (b.1956) was killed in an head-on collision on November 10. Keris was active in the filk community from 1991, often running sound boards. In addition, Keris was a musician and a founding member of the n’Early Music Consort. Keris was inducted into the Filk Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2007.
