The Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) Administrators, Nina Horvath, Curt Phillips, and Jim Mowatt, have announced that they will reverse the direction of the 2016 race to allow a European fan to attend the Worldcon in Kansas City. By running another East-West Race in 2016, it means that 2017 will be a race to send a North American fan to the Helsinki Worldcon.
Preliminary reports indicate that Helsinki has won the right to host the 2017 Worldcon. Helsinki received approximately 52% of the votes on the first ballot, winning outright in a race with Washington, DC, Montreal, and Shizuoka. The official results, convention name, and Guests of Honor will be announced at the Saturday business meeting at Sasquan.
LoneStarCon 3 has announced that three bids have filed the appropriate paperwork to host the 2015 Worldcon. Helsinki in 2015, Orlando in 2015, and Spokane in 2015 are running for the Worldcon. Detroit and Phoenix are both running to host NASFiC in 2014 when the Worldcon is being held in London. All Adult, Military, and Young Adult Attending and Supporting members of LoneStarCon 3 are eligible to take part in the site selection process.
Durring the Fannish Inquisition at Chicon 7 on Friday, August 31, Eemeli Aro announced that Finnish fandom would be bidding to host a Worldcon in Helsinki, Finland in 2015. The Finland bid joins groups already bidding for Spokane, Washington, and Orlando, Florida. Voting for the 2015 Worldcon will take place at next year’s Worldcon, LoneStarCon III, in San Antonio, Texas.
