Walking on Glass Walk

A walk in memory of Iain M. Banks is scheduled for June 29. The walk will take place in London and will follow the chapter titles used by Banks in the Graham Park portion of Banks’s second novel, Walking on Glass. Participants will meet up at the corner of Southampton Row and Theobald’s Road at 1:00 PM on June 29, the day after the thirtieth anniversary of the walk that occurs in the book.

Loncon 3 in 2014

The London Worldcon bid easily won site selection at Chicon 7, receiving 864 of 932 votes cast in an uncontested election. The convention will take place from August 14-18, 2014 at the ExCeL London. Alice Lawson and Steve Cooper will serve as the convention’s co-chairs. The Guests of Honor will be Iain M. Banks, John Clute, Malcolm Edwards, Chris Foss, Jeanne Gomoll, Robin Hobb, and Bryan Talbot. Previous Loncons were held in 1957 and 1965.

Warren Ellis Documentary

Warren Ellis will appear for a question and answer session before the London debut of the documentary Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, which is part of the London International Comics Festival. The screening will take place at 7:00 GT at Bishopsgate Institute’s Great Hall, in London. The London debut will take place one day after the world debut for the film occurs at the Napa Valley Film Festival in California.

SF Exhibit at British Library

The British Library will host its first ever exhibit of science fiction literature from 20 May to 25 September. The exhibit, which will be called “Out of this World: Science Fiction But Not As You Know It,” will include works by Mary Shelley, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, Francis Godwin, Cory Doctorow, and China Miéville, among others as it tracing the evolution of the genre.
