Lucas Selects Los Angeles

George Lucas has announced he will locate his Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. Previously announced for Chicago, Lucas decided to relocate the museum following legal challenges by preservationists. The museum will be located in Exposition Park.

News from Corflu

Corflu Chiflu took place in Chicago the weekend of May 13-15, chaired by Nigel Rowe. During the convention, the location of Corflu 34 as selected. The con will be held from April 29-30, 2017 at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills with Marty Cantor chairing.

During the convention, the FAAN Awards were presented.

Delany at CalArts

Samuel R. Delany will be speaking at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) on Saturday, November 15 at 3:00 in Los Angeles. Delany will be there as the Katie Jacobson Scholar in Residence, with ticket prices ranging from free to $10.

Investigation Reopened

In 1985, SF fans Jonathan and Linda Sohus disappeared, as did a young man renting a room from them, Christopher Chichester. With the discovery that Chichester was really Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter (a.k.a. Clark Rockefeller), who is on trial in Boston for kidnapping his daughter last year, the LA County Sheriff’s department has announced that it is reopening the Sohus case. In the late 80s, Gerhartsreiter was ticketed while driving Sohus’s truck and a human skeleton was found in the Sohus’s back yard when a subsequent owner put in a swimming pool.

Bradbury Tribute

The California Artists Radio Theatre will be producing an an original radio drama adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s “Leviathan 99” as part of a tribute to Bradbury and veteran writer/director Norman Corwin in early May. Bradbury and Corwin are both expected to attend a live stage production. The Los Angeles event will be open to the public.

Solstice Awards

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) have announced the creation of the Solstice Award, presented for significant impact on the science fiction or fantasy landscape. The award may be given to anyone who has not already received the Damon Knight Grand Master Award or been named Author Emeritus by the SFWA. The award’s first three recipients include Kate Wilhelm, Martin H. Greenberg, and the late Algis Budrys. The awards will be presented at this year’s Nebula weekend in Los Angeles.
