Odyssey Scholarship Announced

George R.R. Martin has announced that he will be offering a full scholarship to the Odyssey Writers Workshop. The Miskatonic Scholarship will be awarded to a new author of Lovecraftian style cosmic horror. It will be a full scholarship covering tuition, fees, and lodging for a student and given annually. The winner of the scholarship will be selected by a panel of three judges based on writing samples from students who have demonstrated need.

Odyssey Writers Workshop

The 2013 Odyssey Writers Workshop, run by Jeanne Cavelos, is scheduled to take place June 10 to July 19 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. This year’s writer in residence is Nancy Holder. Other instructors include Holly Black, Patricia Bray, Adam-Troy Castro, Jack Ketchum, and Sheila Williams. Applications for early action are due on January 31, with regular applications due April 8.

Odyssey On-Line

The Odyssey Writers Workshop has announced three new on-line writing classes. Admission to the courses is limited and applications are due for each course at various times in December. Founded seventeen years ago, Odyssey added an on-line component, which has proved popular, two years ago.

  • Showing versus Telling in Fantastic Fiction, taught by Jeanne Cavelos (1/4/12-2/1/12)
  • Secrets of Literary Agents, taught by Lindsay Ribar (1/9/12-1/23/12)
  • Narrative Structures in Fantastic Fiction, taught by Bruce Holland Rogers (1/25/12-2/22/12)

Odyssey Offers On-Line

The Odyssey Writing Workshop will be offering a series of on-line workshops following the success of last year’s offerings. This year’s workshops will include Three-Act Structure in Fantastic Fiction (January 5-February 2 with Jeanne Cavelos), Worldbuilding in Fantastic Fiction (January 12-26 with Melissa Scott), and Writing in Scenes (February 9-23 with Nancy Kress).
