Whittaker Named Doctor

The BBC has announced that Jodie Whittaker will take on the role of the Doctor from Peter Capaldi following this year’s Christmas episode of Doctor Who. Chibnell is the first woman to play the Doctor in the series’ history. She has previously appeared in the film Attack the Block and has also appeared in the television series Broadchurch.

Capaldi Announces Regeneration

Peter Capaldi has announced that the 2017 Christmas episode of Doctor Who, following season 10, will be his last regular appearance as the Doctor. Capaldi, who was a fan of the series as a child, took on the role in Season 8, immediately after the fiftieth anniversary of the television series. Capaldi’s departure from the show will coincide with the departure of show runner, Stephen Moffett, who had previously announced his departure, and will allow in-coming show-runner, Chris Chibnall, to cast his own Doctor.

Capaldi Named Doctor

Actor Peter Capaldi was named as Matt Smith’s successor for the title role on Doctor Who. Capaldi will enter the TARDIS during the Christmas episode this winter, following the show’s fiftieth anniversary special. Capaldi has previously appeared on Doctor Who in the episode “The Fires of Pompeii” in 2008 as well as in Torchwood: Children of Earth. Capaldi has a long career in British film and television. Coincidentally, his most recently released role, in World War Z lists him as played “W.H.O. Doctor.” At 55, Capaldi is the same age Willian Hartnell was when the show premiered in 1963.
