Helen Montgomery will chair SMOFCon 2016 in Chicago on the weekend of December 2-4. A venue for the event has not yet been selected. This will be the 34th SMOFCon, a convention for conrunners, and the second time the event has been held in Chicago, the prior outing in 2003. In addition, bids have been announced for SMOFCons in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Chicago was unopposed for the 2016 bid.
CanSMOF has announced the recipients of three scholarships for use in attending SMOFcon 33. The scholarships allow conrunners to attend SMOFCon, which will be held this year in Dallas/Fort Worth TX, December 4-6, 2015.
- Canadian Citizen/Resident Scholarship: Lisa Macklem (London, Ontario)
- Non-North American Resident Scholarship: Maree Pavletich (Auckland, New Zealand)
- Unrestricted Scholarship: Split between Keri O’Brien (Overland Park, KS) and Deanna Sjolander (Kansas City, MO)
CanSMOF has announced a call for applicants for this year’s scholarships to SMOFCon 33, to be held in Fort Worth, Texas, December 4-6, 2015. This year, CanSMOF has added a third scholarship for non-North American residents. One scholarship is available to a Canadian citizen interested in learning more about con-running, a second scholarship is being offered to any non-North American con-runner, with a third scholarship available to any fan. The deadline for applications is October 9th 2014.
Fort Worth, TX won the right to host SMOFCon the weekend of December 4-6 at the Sheraton Fort Worth Hotel and Spa. The Fort Worth team beat a bid from Colorado Springs. Tim Miller will chair the Fort Worth SMOFCon.
CANSMOF has announced that Jean-Louis Trudel (Québec City, Canada) and Jared Dashoff (Washington, DC) are the recipients of this year’s SMOFCon scholarships. Both recipients will receive aid to attend this year’s SMOFCon in Manhattan Beach, CA and are required to write a report about the event for CANSMOF.

One scholarship is available to a Canadian citizen interested in learning more about con-running with the other scholarship available to any fan. The deadline for applications is October 15th 2014.
CanSMOF has announced the award of this year’s two scholarships to attend SMOFCon 31 in Toronto, Canada the weekend of December 6-8. Each winner will receive C$500 to help defray the cost of attending the convention. Jenni Merrifield of Port Moody, BC will receive the award for a Canadian attendee and Pablo M.A Vazquez III of Austin, TX will receive the award available to any con-runner throughout the world.
CANSMOF has announced that Danielle MacDonald (Ontario, Canada) and James Shields (County Meath, Ireland) are the receipients of this year’s SMOFCon scholarships. Both recipients will receive aid to attend this year’s SMOFCon in Philadelphia, PA and are required to write a report about the event for CANSMOF.
San Diego has announced that they will no longer be bidding to host SMOFCon in 2014, citing potential plans for holding a different event the following year. After the San Diego announcement, Colorado Springs announced plans to bid for SMOFCon in 2015.
CanSMOF Inc. has announced two recipients of scholarships to help con-runners attend SMOFCon 29 in Amsterdam this December. Catherine Crockett of Toronto, Ontario and Megan Totusek of Maryville, Missouri will each receive scholarships of $1000 to help them attend.
