Virgin Galactic Unveils SpaceShipTwo

Virgin Galactic has unveiled SpaceShipTwo, its second generation spacecraft which is designed for astrotourism. Named the VSS Unity, the ship replaces their earlier SpaceShipTwo test craft (VSS Enterprise) which crashed in 2014 due to pilot error. The spaceship requires testing prior to being certified for flights, but more than 700 people have placed a $250,000 deposit for the right to ride on the suborbital spacecraft.

SpaceShipTwo Crashes

Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo crashed in the Mojave Desert after reporting an in-flight anomaly during a test flight. Two pilots were on-board and witnesses reported seeing at least one parachute., but the fate of the pilots is currently unknown. One of the two pilots on board was killed and the other injured. Virgin Galactic had hoped that SpaceShipTwo would have made its first extra-atmospheric flight by the end of the year.
