SLF Working Class Grant

The Speculative Literature Foundation has announced that Nino Cipri has been awarded the Working Class Grant. The $750 award supports any purpose that the writer wishes to benefit their work. Cipri currently works for bicycle sharing company Divvy in Chicago and has recently completed the Clarion Writers Workshop. Cipri’s writing has appeared or will appear in Tor.com, Fireside Fiction, Betwixt, Daily Science Fiction, The Journal of Unlikely Entomology, and The Eunoia Review.

SLF Diversity Grants

The Speculative Literature Foundation has announced the winner of its first Diverse Writers Grant and Diverse Worlds Grant. Both grants were won by Madhvi Ramani, who grew up in London and currently lives in Berlin. Each grant is for $500. The Diverse Writers Grant offers support to new and emerging writers from underrepresented and underprivileged groups whose marginalized identities may present additional obstacles in the writing/publishing process. The Diverse Worlds Grant is presented for work that best presents a diverse world, regardless of the writer’s background. Ramani submitted her story “Zafir, the Saudi Superhero” for consideration.

Translation Awards Fund Raising

The Speculative Literature Foundation has announced that it has pledged $250 per year to help support the SF&F Translation Awards, which are given to recognize the translation of science fiction, fantasy and related fiction from other languages into English. Science Fiction Studies has also pledged annual support for the awards. Currently the SF&F Translation Awards are holding a fundraiser, which will include prizes such as autographed books by Neil Gaiman and Jeff VanderMeer.
