Sasquan is holding a contest for the design of the base for the 2015 Hugo Awards. Design should reflect Spokane or the Northwest in general. Design proposals will be accepted until Sunday, February 1, 2015, with the winner selected by Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Not only will the winner’s design be used for the Hugo, but the winner will receive a full attending membership for the convention and will be invited to take part in the public unveiling of the design.
Sasquan, the 2015 Worldcon, has announced that Tananarive Due and Guest of Honor David Gerrold would co-emcee next year’s Hugo Award Ceremony. In addition, Sasquan has announced that Warren Frey, Steven Schapansky, and Chris Burgess will co-host a live pre- and post-Ceremony internet broadcast discussing the history of the Hugos, the current ballot, and will interview nominees and winners.
Detroit was selected to host the 2014 NASFIC and Spokane was selected to host the 2015 Worldcon. Although the general results are known, specifics, including voting numbers, names, Guests of Honor, etc. will be announced at the WSFS Business Meeting on Sunday.
LoneStarCon 3 has announced that three bids have filed the appropriate paperwork to host the 2015 Worldcon. Helsinki in 2015, Orlando in 2015, and Spokane in 2015 are running for the Worldcon. Detroit and Phoenix are both running to host NASFiC in 2014 when the Worldcon is being held in London. All Adult, Military, and Young Adult Attending and Supporting members of LoneStarCon 3 are eligible to take part in the site selection process.
Durring the Fannish Inquisition at Chicon 7 on Friday, August 31, Eemeli Aro announced that Finnish fandom would be bidding to host a Worldcon in Helsinki, Finland in 2015. The Finland bid joins groups already bidding for Spokane, Washington, and Orlando, Florida. Voting for the 2015 Worldcon will take place at next year’s Worldcon, LoneStarCon III, in San Antonio, Texas.
The Seattle Westercon Organizing Committee has announced a bid to host the 2015 Worldcon in Spokane, Washington. Bobbie DuFault and Sally Woehrle are slated to be the co-chairs of the convention should the bid be successful. Fans can support the bid with presupports at $20 or “Friend of the Bid” memberships at $120. Presupports can be obtained online on the bid website or by mail.
