The board of directors for Steamcon has announced their decision to cancel the series of Seattle Steampunk convention due to financial difficulties. The convention is currently more than $40,000 in debt and may face additional debt from the IRS or from hotel penalties. In addition to cancelling the convention, the board of directors has voted to dissolve the corporation.
The Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation will be hosting the International Steampunk City the weekend of May 6-8, 2011. The event will take place at various locations through the city of Waltham, Massachusetts, artwork, street theatre, and exhibits.
The nominees for the first Steamcon Airship Awards have been announced. The Steamcon Airship Awards will be presented at Steamcon II: Weird Weird West, to be held in Seattle, Washington from November 19-21. Any pre-registered member of the con may vote for the winners in five categories.

Christa Newman has been declared the winner of the BookView Café’s Extraordinary Steampunk Photo Contest. Newman will receive copies of The Shadow Conspiracy: Tales of the Steam Age, volumes one and two for her picture of a leather apron clad steampunk diva. Randolph Fritz took second prize and readers’ choice.
