Tor to Move

Macmillan Publishers, including Tor Books, has signed a lease to move from their current location in New York’s Flatiron Building to 120 Broadway, where they will take up 216,000 square feet on five complete floors. The move, scheduled for 2019, will leave the Flatiron Building completely vacant. Macmillan currently has the entire building leased.

More Changes at Tor

In the wake of the announcement that Patrick Nielsen Hayden and Linda Quinton had been promoted at Devi Pillai hired, Tor Books has announced that Diana Gill has joined the company as executive editor after working at HarperVoyager and Berkley. In addition, Liz Gorinsky and Miriam Weinberg have been promoted to Senior Editors, Jennifer Gunnels and Diana Pho have been promoted to Editors, Christopher Morgan has been promoted to Junior Associate Editor, and Melissa Singer has been named Manager of Editorial Operations. At Forge, Bess Cozby has been named Editor and Elayne Becker has been named Junior Associate Editor. Whitney Ross was promoted to senior editor and Amy Stapp was promoted to editor at Tor YA.

Tor Names Associate Publishers

Tor Books has announced that Patrick Nielsen Hayden will be promoted to Associate Publisher. In addition, Devi Pillai will join Tor as an Associate Publisher. Nielsen Hayden has worked at Tor in various editorial positions for the past 28 years. Pillai joins Tor from Orbit US, which she has worked for the past several years. In addition, Linda Quinton has been named Publisher of Forge Books. Quinton was previously Associate Publisher and Vice President of marketing for Tor/Forge.

Staff Promoted at Tor

Tor Books has announced a series of beginning of year promotions for staff members. Melissa Frain and Marco Palmieri have been promoted to senior editors at Tor/Forge, Miriam Weinberg has been promoted to editor, and Diana Pho has been promoted to associate editor.

Frenkel No Longer at Tor

Patrick Nielsen Hayden announced via Twitter that long time editor James Frenkel is no longer working for Tor Books. According to Nielsen Hayden, works which had been assigned to Frenkel will be redistributed to other editors at Tor Books, but anything which had been submitted to Frenkel and not accepted should be resubmitted to Tor.

NASA and Tor

Tor Books and NASA have announced a collaboration to publish a series of
science based, commercial fiction books, referred to as “NASA inspired Works of Fiction.” The series will allow authors to work closely with NASA Subject Matter Experts to ensure that the science incorporated into the novels is accurate. The Goddard Space Flight Center’s Innovative Partnerships Program (IPP) Office will host a two-day workshop for authors.
