Foy to Head Tor

Tom Doherty has announced that he will be moving into the role of Chairman of Tom Doherty Associates and Fritz Foy will take on the role of President and Publisher of Tom Doherty Associates, which inclues Tor, Orb, Forge, and other imprints. Foy has spent 21 years at Macmillan, most recently as Senior Vice President of Strategic Technology, as well as Publisher of Tor.com.

Tor Book Club

Tor has announced the Tor.com eBook Club, which will offer a free e-book each month to anyone who registers for the e-book club newsletter. The first book is Cixin Liu’s Hugo Award winning novel The Three Body Problem. Each selection will be supported by on-line discussion and social media from Tor.com’s staff of writers.

Tor.com Closing Unsolicited Submissions

Tor.com has announced that it will no longer accept unsolicited short story submissions for the website effective January 7. Although they note that they have found some wonderful stories in the slush pile, the feeling seems to be that the signal to noise ratio is not worth the effort.

Tor.com Giving Away Worldcon Membership

To celebrate the completion of Jo Walton’s series on Hugo Award winners, Tor.com has announced a drawing to give away a membership (either attending or supporting) to Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention, scheduled to be held in Chicago from August 30-September 3, 2012.
