The University of California-Riverside is looking for an Associate Librarian or Librarian to fill the new position of Jay Kay and Doris Klein Science Fiction Librarian in Special Collections & University Archives, which was recently endowed by a grant from the estate of Jay Kay Klein. The position will be responsible for all aspects of the development, stewardship, and promotion of the Eaton Collection of Science Fiction and Fantasy. The application period runs through January 26, 2015, but applicants are advised to submit their materials by January 19.
Only weeks after concerns were raised that the Eaton Collection at University of California-Riverside was undergoing changes which would decrease their holdings and limit the use of the collection, Special Collections Director Melissa Conway announced that science fiction photographer Jay Kay Klein bequeathed $3.5 million to the collection. Eaton had previously acquired Klein’s photography archives, which span seven decades from the 1940s to the 2010s.
