World Fantasy Trophy Revealed

The World Fantasy Award administrators have revealed the new design for the World Fantasy Award trophy. Previously a 3D representation of H.P. Lovecraft as depicted by Gahan Wilson, the trophy caused controversy in recent years due to Lovecraft’s opinions on race. The new trophy, sculpted by Vincent Villafranca, depicts a tree in front of a full moon. Recipients of the award in 2016 received a certificate during the ceremony and will receive one of the new trophies later this year. Villafranca will receive two lifetime membership to the World Fantasy Convention. First runner up, artist Misty Hawkins, will receive two memberships to the 2017 World Fantasy Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
