It was a cold and drizzly Sunday. Like most Sundays, I was driving my kids to the movies, this time to see the
new film from the creator of The Sixth Sense (***).
There are two theaters in the town where I live -- one old, one new. In the old one, the seats are broken, so
they slant downward, and sitting on them for an hour gives me a terrible backache. In the new theater they have
stadium seating, but the screens are about the size of a wall television set. So we usually drive forty-five minutes
to Tinseltown. It's a pleasant drive, and it gives us some time to talk.
We got there just as the previews were starting. There are usually about fifteen minutes of previews. Some of
the previews look pretty good, especially Pearl Harbor, but after awhile I whispered to my son sitting next
to me (my other son usually sits way down in front), "You know what's wrong with these previews?"
"Yeah," he said. "They give away way too much of the movie."
